About Pacific University
Pacific University is located in downtown Forest Grove, Oregon, a charming, walkable town of about 20,000. Founded in 1849 by Congregational pioneers as the Tualatin Academy, today Pacific University is an independent liberal arts university enrolling over 3,000 students. The compact and beautiful fifty-five acre campus is home to oaks, firs, redwoods, and
acorn woodpeckers. Oregon's gorgeous Pacific Coast is 54 miles west of Forest Grove, a scenic drive through Tillamook State Forest. Forest Grove is known as the gateway to Oregon's famed wine country, with wineries minutes from downtown Forest Grove that offer tasting rooms, fine food, events, gift shops, and tours.
About our dorms and other amenities
In addition to a refurbished 400-seat recital hall designed for chamber music perfect for viol consorts, Pacific University has again offered us housing in 2 Gold LEED dorms. Both dorms are apartment style, with double and single bedrooms, a living room, kitchen/kitchenette, and bathrooms. The dorms have wifi, air-conditioning, and elevators. A city swimming pool, located in one of the town's nine parks, is a short walk from the dorms.
Getting to Pacific University
Forest Grove is twenty-five miles west of downtown Portland. The drive from Portland International Airport (PDX) is just under an hour, if you can avoid Portland's rush hour traffic! Getting to Forest Grove from Portland on public transportation is cheap and fairly straightforward—MAX Red Line from the PDX airport to Beaverton, then bus from Beaverton Transit Center to Forest Grove.
Possibilities for Wednesday afternoon
On Wednesday of Conclave we have a pause in our busy week. The schedule is adjusted to give you the late afternoon and evening off. There are no afternoon classes or dinner in the dining hall. This gives you a chance to explore the area and have a break. You might take a jaunt to the Pacific coast or into Portland, or you might stay closer to home and check the restaurants in Forest Grove, or visit nearby Fernhill Wetlands. A short drive away is the Hagg Lake Recreation Area which offers swimming, boating, and a golf course. Make plans early so you can share a ride or figure out the bus schedule. A Trimet bus leaves Forest Grove every 15 minutes and connects to the MAX light rail service into Portland.
