Comments:

7-piece table, 2-piece back, both with double purfling (single around soundholes). Body shape similar to Ashmolean’s festooned bass also attributed to Rose. Heavily ornamented, including ribs. Caldwells acquired present head separately, earlier, from Mrs. E. Brooks Keffer (Philadelphia), at same time as undated Tielke bass; thought to represent Ulysses. Neck, fingerboard and tailpiece by Mark Norfleet. Bridge 10.45 high, neck sharply angled back, penetrating tone. Neck inset into table. Fleming 2001: 7-piece table?; double purfling front and back; much damage; dimensions 68.3, 32.3/25.1/38.7, 11.5, -. Caldwell 2012 dimensions: 68.5, 32.1/24.7/38.6, 11.4, 70.4.
