Comments:

3-piece table with 9-ply B+W purfling; 2-piece back with none (but much stronger flame in lower bouts than elsewhere); edges of both overhang the highly-figured ribs. No visible grafts between head (with Viking-type cap and long hair), pegbox (with carved back but plain sides, and 7-fold purfling on front edges), and neck. Unusual diamond-pattern carvings on neck heel sides. Fingerboard extension 1 cm into pegbox predates acqusition by J. Davidoff; bridge by W.L. Monical, who thinks it’s a composite: table English 17C, rest 19C? Bought no later than 1960; stolen 1968, recovered 1971. M. Herzog to TGM 4/19: interior inscription “A.E. [or A.V.?] / Rep. Charlottenburg / August 1927”: probably Arthur Voss. Changes to nut, neck, and fingerboard by Shlomo Moyal (2019/20) to improve playability.
