Comments:
Waterhouse 1998/2010: “?Flemish, ca. 1740”; dimensions 31.0, 15.0, 18.0 [sic, recte probably 10.8], 18.2 (Waterhouse 1998 gave only total length 61, called it a “high treble viol”, as did Bevan 1990). Ribs cut down for conversion to viola. Table and back both two-piece; head, neck, fingerboard, and tailpiece not original. TGM: No purfling, front or back; table grain medium to wide and wavy; black slab-cut with many flaws; large ivory tail button, no sign of ever having had a hookbar.
