Comments:
Sharply sloping shoulders, table smaller than back in upper bout. Hopfner 2006: 1-piece table (carved), with non-original purfling; original top block. Hopfner 2008: dendro date by P. Klein (1988) was 1581, but now revised to 1382 by M. Beuting (2007). Restored in 1910 by Alfred Coletti. Carter 2006: “can be considered to be in reasonably ‘original’ condition,” disregarding later soundpost and bass bar; however, “neck has been removed and re-glued” and hook-and-eye for fastening tailpiece has been replaced by tailgut and button. Estimated SL 49-53: perhaps tuned in G at high pitch or in A at low pitch. Moens 1989: earliest possible date for table is 1580 (based on dendrochronology [by P. Klein]). Back and ribs cut from old parts (open worm holes); neck probably not original; completely different from Ciciliano tenor and bass, C76 and C77. Edmunds 1994: date 1560-80; SL 52. Thorby 2018: label not original. Only Woodfield 1984, p. 130 and Hopfner 2008 call this a tenor, others say treble. Edmunds 1980 dimensions 48.0, 23.0/-/26.5, 8.4, 49-53.
