Lachmann (and thus also Christie’s): alto viola da braccio; probably a cut-down viola d’amore (evidence of former presence of 6 sympathetic strings). I read label date as 1776; they say 1746 (but JJ Stadlmann’s father and teacher lived until 1744; JJ died in 1781). Tourin dimensions 67.9, 41.3, 19.2/-/24.1, 3.7, -.
