Comments:
Hellwig 2011, TieWV 161; Hellwig 1980, no. 134. 2-piece table and 2-piece back (flat with fold), both with narrow ivory edging and non-original single purfling. Head very like no. 133 (of birch from Tielke’s workshop, slightly larger than his own); pegbox with open-carved back and ivory edging; neck, fingerboard, and tailpiece not original. Comprehensively restored by G. Hellwig, 1975. Dimensions 67.5, 30.3/21.8/37.7, 11.8, 67.0. Hellwig 2011 adds: former repair label, removed by GH: “Riparato e corretto da me / Emilio Petraglia ‘annon 1921.” Neck by GH, incorporating parts of original neck heel. Back widths 30.2/22.7/37.6. Less skillful carving of head and pegbox suggests made in last years of Tielke’s life, or at start of J.H. Goldt’s activity as his successor; 1717 is earliest possible date.
