Comments:
Violin-style neck, backless pegbox, and finial are old but not original to this instrument. 2-piece back and ribs of bird’s-eye maple. “Viola da gamba (treble),” but “presumably remodeled from a viola d’amore,” though no trace of sympathetic strings. Smallest of 10 Höss “trebles”. 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side. (Höss held the court title named on label from 1673 to his death in 1710.)
