Comments:

Hellwig 2011, TieWV 150; Hellwig 1980, no. 123. 2-piece table with painted double “purfling”; striped back (arched) and ribs of palisander and maple (back 4+3, outer two wider; ribs 1+2). Head and pegbox with open-carved back are copies in style of Tielke; neck, fingerboard and tailpiece not original. Probably identical to viol listed in sale of Berlin Collection, Trondheim 1787 (no. 5). Dimensions 68.0, 30.5/22.2/38.0, 13.2, -. Tourin dimensions (from museum) 123.5, 67.3, 30.4/22.0/38.3, 12.8, 67.0. Hellwig 2011 adds: repair label “Repareret af / Instrumentmager G. Enger / Sqvaldergade No. 3 / KJØBENHAVN 1884 [printed except 84]. Bass bar possibly old, hookbar not original. Back stripes 6 dark/5 light, ribs 4+3 with outer two much wider than others; no purfling on back. Back widths 30.2/22.2/37.3. Reconverted from cello by Olav Gorset, Oslo, including all fittings. Contrary to GH, carving on pegbox and head is clearly old, probably contemporary with body; but style of head differs significantly from Tielke’s norm at this time, so both probably by a different subcontractor.
