Comments:

Hellwig 2011, TieWV 107; Hellwig 1980, no. 096. 2-piece table with ivory edging (probably modern Danish work) and double purfling; halves don’t belong together; arched back almost completely covered with glued-on carved ornament. Neck, fingerboard, and tailpiece not original. Restored by Hellwig in 1958; had been converted to a cello (and varnished black) when found in Italy in 1920; Baroness Rosenorn-Lehn, solo dancer of the royal theater in Copenhagen, actually played it. Dimensions 65.6, 29.5/21.6/37.3, 12.7, -. Hellwig 2011 adds: 2-piece back has no purfling; glued-on ornament about 5 cm wide runs center joint (not medallions). Repaired in the 1920s by Carl Juul Mortensen, Copenhagen; most recent restoration by Christian Brosse, 1977-78.
