Comments:
Hellwig 2011, TieWV 067 (viola d’amore); Hellwig 1980, no. 061 (“viola d’amore (?)”). Köpp 2003: less certainly a viola d’amore than the 4 smaller examples by Tielke. Hellwig 1980: 2-piece table with double purfling (badly sunken on bass side); 1-piece back (flat with fold). Head, neck, fingerboard and tailpiece, pegs not original. Ribs narrowed toward bottom block. 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side. Restored by Günter Hellwig, 1959 (dimensions from his report, also in Hellwig 1980: 39.0, 18.0/13.8/22.6, 4.7, -): had been converted to a viola (neck probably early 19th century, by same person who did museum’s M2475; fingerboard and pegs later). Bass bar, soundpost, and hookbar also new. Hellwig 2011 adds: authenticity of table is questionable (varnish doesn’t match rest of body); no purfling on back. Tailpiece based on TieWV 58, but with horizontal top edge. Back widths 17.8/13.6/22.3. Tourin: arm viol.
