Comments:

Lütgendorff 1922: [back?], ribs and neck of ebony; ivory relief on table, depicting Orpheus among wild beasts [mostly hidden by end of fingerboard]. Photos: rosette; black-and-white edging to table, fingerboard, tailpiece, and pegbox; heart-shaped cutout at end of fingerboard, plus two more in tailpiece, with diagonal top edge. Head is a black female bust wearing a shawl but with bare breasts; relief carving on back of pegbox. Initials K M A (= Kungl. Musikaliska Akademien] at top of back. Letter of 4/64 from Günther Hellwig to museum: “Ich bin felsenfest davon überzeugt, dass es eine Viola da braccio ist, wie der Hals wohl eindeutig beweist.” Tourin: arm viol. (K. Köpp would probably say viola d’amore.) Website string length 31.0-31.5.
