Comments:
Disassembled when seen (ribs in 6 pieces), condition fragile. Dimensions approximate due to missing wood around perimeter of table. Pointed corners but sloping shoulders and flat back. Back and ribs of sycamore, except lower bout ribs of walnut (R. Nurse). Machine pegs for 19th-C. use as 3-stringed contrabass. Comparable in size and style to Dolmetsch Maggini violone. Date “before 1609” (Banks 1984); website lists as “attributed to” da Salo. Website dimensions: 97.2, 43.3?/30.4/58.5?, 19.9. - (stop length 51.0); Banks dimensions: 98, 42.5/-/45.5, 20, -; “bass”. Tourin: no dimensions, also classified as a bass.
