Birsak 1996: viola d’amore or Alt-Viola, converted to a viola in first half of 19th C.; 7 small holes in bottom rib, perhaps for attaching sympathetic strings; body corners slightly pointed. Back length 40.4, widths 18.4/12.7/22.6.
