Comments:
Converted to a (small) cello; early-Italian-style shoulders. Knast gives body length 55.5, max width 32.2. Formerly in Poznan (MNP-Id.6/406), now in Krakow. Szulc: modest work; back and sides of bird’s-eye maple; undoubtedly by an 18th-C. Krakow luthier, imitating Italian style. Frankowski: back is birch, striped ribs (central mahogany, outer probably birch); neck narrowed, and reangled with a wedge; outline altered “in some spots the edge narrowed down to the purfling in both sound plates”); repair label “Konserwacjö przeprowadziä / w Pracowni Konserwatorskiej Muzeum Narodowego w Poznaniu / Kazimierz Bendowski / artysta lutnik / 1960 rok” [= “Conservation was carried out in the Conservation Workshop of the National Museum in Poznań / Kazimierz Bendowski / artist lutnik / 1960”]; dimensions 56.0, 28.2/19.3/32.3, -, - (back widths 26.6/19.5/32.2).
