Comments:
Body has slightly pointed corners and arched back (cf. MNK-IV-Sp-80). Table has heart-shaped rosette and flame holes with lower eyes. (Knast calls this a baryton converted to a cello, citing the presence of holes on the table indicating the former presence of a bridge attached at a 45-degree angle.) Date probably1Q18C, based on similarities to the 1720 Groblicz viol privately owned in Düsseldorf. Frankowski 2016: 3-piece table; 3-piece back and ribs of bird’s-eye maple; neck, pegbox, and top block not original, but head is. 9 plugged holes on table under the tailpiece for fastening [sympathetic] strings, so original disposition was 6+9; youngest tree ring on table dated 1693. Dimensions above from Szulc 1949; Kaminski 1992 gives 68.0, 32.0/ - /38.0, 13.5, -; Jaskulski 1996 gives 67.6, 31.9/23.4/40.2, 13.5, 67.2 (over arching; or 67.5, 31.6/23.0//40.0 in the air); Frankowski 2016 gives 67.7, 31.9/23.3/40.0, 13.3, - (back widths 32.0/23.5/39.9)
