Comments:
Website: Allemagne, 18e. 1-piece back of bird’s-eye maple, semi-pointed body corners. Neck redone in mid-19th century; varnish original but retouched. Body length estimated based on meter stick in photos; widths 34/21/42, string length 71. W. Monical (to TGM 10/16): Bohemian, c. 1720 or later, based on body outline similar to Prague School violas d’amore, with very narrow C bouts and flame holes with lower ornaments; also thick table edges and use of birds-eye maple for back and ribs. Pegbox and carved head probably Germanic, 20th century, of pearwood.
