Comments:
Museum website: pardessus de viole. Back and ribs of small-scale ivory and ebony marquetry rectangles; soundholes shaped like crescent moons, with circular holes on inner edges near bottom. Website: origin “Italie ... vers 1700.” Formerly set up as a viola d’amore; originally had metal strings (plus “traces à la place des frettes de touches fixes arasées”). Gétreau 1996: repaired in 1862 by Henry & Martin: new pegs and bridge. Jaquier 1995: viole d’amour sans cordes sympathiques.
