5-piece table of pine (not spruce) with oval rosette; 2-piece back with off-center joint. Double purfling on front and back, also purfling around C-holes and diamond pattern at bottom of back. Fingerboard, tailpiece, rosette, and bridge made 1982 at GNM, under supervision of F. Hellwig; previously restored by Eugen Tenucci at Hug & Co. (Zurich) for Rück, including scroll and pegbox, copied from VIC 2 (in 1932 had a female head, also not original), also new lower bass rib and addition of corner blocks; neck not original but top block is. Martius 2004 and Edmunds 1994: photos of underside of table while off body during restoration, showing scorch marks from bending iron. Repair labels: 1) “A. Kanps / Venlo 18.73” [handwritten, on underside of table]; 2) “.... / .... / ... Bergen op Zoom / ... 1841” [handwritten]. Drawing by Jobst Brause (1990) available from museum; 1982 restoration report also on file there.
