[Marcus Stainer, Kufstein, 1630]
No. of Strings:
Found in a monastery near Brixen, South Tirol (Italy) c. 1957
G. Niggemann to PT 3/77
[Unpublished, from G. Niggemann: front, head 3/4 (color)]
Not in Senn & Roy 1986. Rosette. Fingerboard and tailpiece have diagonal ends. F-holes not like Stainer’s (longer and narrower). Attribution to “Marcus Stainer, Kufstein, 1630” (per G. Niggemann) problematic: Marcus Stainer lived c. 1633-93 (no relation to Jacob); worked in Laufen from 1655, but no evidence of him in Kufstein; such labels now considered fakes.
