Comments:
Conceivably the same instrument pictured in Hamma 1986, p. 500, except: he gives its date as 1715 (impossible, since maker born in 1744, but easy enough to misread 1 for 7); that viol has 7 strings (but could have been renecked between 1977 and 1986); and its dimensions are 68.8, 31.0/23.3/37.7 (but length could have been taken on the back including the neck heel). Both heads do have a very narrow throat attaching them to the pegbox, and the 7th peg in Hamma’s photo is crowded up right against the top end of the pegbox, thus possibly an addition without needing to hypothesize a renecking operation. Also perhaps same as DHV 978, mentioned by Drescher 1990, p. 666.
