Comments:
Repair label: “Rivisto e restaurato da Ferdinando / Rossi in Modena nel 1878”. Cervelli 1963 considers the 1677 label of G. Gherardi also as a repair label, and says the instrument was perhaps originally built as a 6-string viola da gamba. (Also says it belonged for a time to the Lazzari di Carpi family: before Valdrighi?) Lütgendorff mentions Gherardi only in connection with this instrument.
