Comments:
Not in Monical’s checklist; museum display label calls it a quinton, website “quinton in viol form”. Attribution to Fleury and date of 1781 taken from Brown catalogue; no writing visible on label, except a few letters (“...URY”) and numbers (“84”) under ultraviolet light. Museum’s catalogue card notes F. Hellwig thought it German; Monical thinks C’s suggest Mirecourt; definitely unlike all four known Fleury pardessus (TGM). König 1985, p. 113: similar to Copenhagen 371.D46, but that has 6 strings and very different C-holes. 2-piece table and back, both with single purfling. Back is arched, but corners not pointed; no overhanging edges; tail gut; neck angled back considerably. 3 nail heads visible in top block. Ebony veneer on fingerboard; tailpiece doesn’t match. 3 pegs treble, 2 bass side. Museum dimensions 32.2, 15.9/11.4/19.8, 4.1, 30.9
