Comments:

Roosen 2001: Alt-Viola da gamba. 2-piece table with recurve and single purfling; small, heart-shaped rosette; 1-piece, slab-cut back with 2 small wings, no purfling. Neck made of birch, with rounded profile, and consists of several pieces; lion head resembles those of Stainer. 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side (top one not original, and its hole probably drilled in modern times); no frets. Has undergone some restoration; fingerboard and tailpiece probably not original. Perhaps an arm-viol or viola d’amore without sympathetic strings. Tourin’s dimensions: 77.0, 42.0, 21.2/15.1/25.1, 7.4, 40-41.
