Hellwig 2011, TieWV 074; Hellwig 1980, no. 064. 3-piece table with double purfling; arched back, badly warped. Head (?), pegbox and pegs, neck, fingerboard, and tailpiece not original; fairly poor condition; dimensions 64.3, 29.0/21.7/36.0, 12.0, -. Roosen 2001 adds: center piece of table perhaps bent not carved; no recurve; double purfling. 2-piece arched back with slight recurve but no purfling. Wooden perimeter linings, probably not original; two crossbars on back; bass bar not original. No frets. Worm damage to body edges and head; numerous repaired cracks in table, including one nearly full-length in center; open back joint and rib cracks; warped arching of table and back. Restoration from a cello conversion perhaps done by Hermann Seyffarth, Leipzig, 1903 (cf. no. 5 of this collection). Dimensions 64.3, 29.2/22.2/35.5, 12.0, 65.0. Hellwig 2011 adds: Seyfarth’s work documented by letter of March 1904 to Schuhmacher in museum’s archive. Back widths 28.6/21.5/35.7. Muthesius 2006: 3-piece table, bent not carved. Tourin’s dimensions: 64.5, 29.1/22.0/36.3, 12.5, 64.8?
