Blagodatov 1972: “viola d’amore, converted to a viola.” Tourin: thick enough to be a treble, but probably an arm viol. (2 other small Jais instruments have rib depths of 4.5 and 5.8 cm, but both had been converted to violas; for 2 more, depth unknown, but for one of these Tourin noted “thin ribs”.) Head probably original, pegbox not.
