Otterstedt 1994: name of Charles Houtstont of Brussels [fl. c. 1900] written in pencil on inside of back above the fold, suggesting the instrument is a “forgery”. (Museum date c. 1800.) Hammerich 1911: “Gamba d’amore”; carved head “in florentinischem Stil”. Tourin: overhanging edges, ornate purfling on table and pegbox, neck probably original. 7 sympathetic strings. Perhaps Bohemian.
