5-piece table with low arch, 1-piece back, both with double purfling; ribs also have frame of continuous purfling. 2 grafts at pegbox, one running all the way to head (evidence of widening or narrowing?). Boldly carved grandfather’s head with beard, probably late 18th-C. German. Display sign suggests date c. 1680. Morton 2010 (from 1982 appraisal by M. Remenyi): back and ribs of sycamore, head newer than rest; (from pre-1982 description by B. Pronger): neck thought to be original, head possibly by George St. George, instrument has been over-varnished, especially on table; dimensions from 1974 appraisal by W. Monical. Attribution to Jaye by B. Hebbert, 2009, based in part on similarity of varnish to the 1619 Jaye bass and purfling to the 1610 Jaye bass. Tourin dimensions 33.0, 15.7/11.0/18.6, 8.0, 31.5? 34.5
