Comments:

Harnoncourt 2017: Found by an art-restorer friend of Harnoncourt’s in a tower of a castle. All glue joints had failed, and ribs had become completely unbent, but all components still present, including tailpiece, bass bar, soundpost, etc. Evidently made while Posch was still working for his father; second label added once he had received his own court appointment. Wooden pegs plus metal tuning gears. Restored by Josef Krenn, Vienna, 1955, with new fingerboard and bridge. (Cf. the 5-string “Contrebasse attribuée à Anthony Posche, Vienna, 1733. Vienna, coll. Knava” illustrated in Moens 1996, p. 29.)
