Comments:
Soundholes are backwards Cs. Telemann recording calls it “Tenorviola, Oberitalien, um 1550”; Kaiserhof recording calls it “Tenor viola, Tirol um 1650”; Maximilian recording calls it “Tenor fiddle”. Harnoncourt 2017: “Tenorfiedel,” with original neck, probably from same workshop as the De Fantis bass. Harnoncourt 2023: Stefano de Fantis, c. 1550; structurally very similar to his bass of 1558. Body, neck, pegbox, and scroll all original; dendrochronology dating is 1503.
