Hellwig 2011, TieWV 059 (viola d’amore); Hellwig 1980, no. 054 (“viola d’amore (?)”). Hellwig 1980: 2-piece table with sickle-shaped soundholes and single purfling; back (flat with fold) of 4 stripes of palisander and 3 of maple; ribs are maple only, not striped. Pegbox with plain sides and fluted back (not original?); pegs not original; fingerboard veneered with tortoiseshell; tailpiece not original. Restored by G. Hellwig in 1959; dimensions 33.8, 15.1/11.1/19.5, 3.7, -. Hellwig 2011 adds: bass bar (with horizontal growth rings) probably original; pegbox with plugged, non-original 6th hole; very finely crafted lion’s head; tailpiece based on TieWV 58, but with horizontal top edge. Back widths 15.1/11.1/19.4. Köpp 2000, p. 146: viola d’amore.
