Comments:

Back has diamonds at neck, below fold, and at bottom, with 2 large ovals in middle. Table has rosette and soundholes with lower eyes only (similar to Tapio’s and Kessler/Ryan’s viols attributed to Jacobs, but smaller than either). Carved pegbox. Drawing by P. Buitendijk, Jr. (1987) available from museum. Jacobi 2006: “...there are doubts as to the authenticity of this instrument as the work of Jacobs...”; “The instrument was restored several years ago”; dimensions 69.7, 32.5/23.2/40.1, -, - (probably taken on the back). Tourin: 3 cross braces below soundpost plate; no liners or corner blocks, definite neck graft; English-type purfling work on back; carving on neck heel, also sides and back of pegbox; nicely carved hookbar; beveled C-holes. On loan to the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, since 12/2015.
