Comments:
Lira da gamba, modified to cello. Table with Herzog’s “El Greco”-style ridges extending inward from all four corners; soundholes originally a different shape (Tourin) [TGM: probably “3”]. Overhanging edges. Double purfling on front and back. Mileshina 2016: “Lyre de gamba”; table, back, and (closed-up) rosette have double purfling; neck and (separate) pegbox, lower blocks, soundpost plate, and exterior fittings of ebony not original: from cello conversion, presumably in late 19 or early 20 C. Soundholes altered, originally probably Cs; table originally wider.
