Comments:

Baines (and hence Tourin) called this a tenor. Fleming 2001: 4-piece table (old but possibly not original); double purfling front and back; back was once folded at bottom; only the back half of current rib height is original (all around), so no depth given; neck and head not original. Tailpiece has diamond-shaped inlay in two colors of wood. TGM: handwritten repair label now illegible except for date 1963 at end of 4th line; may refer to reversing of a viola conversion. Neck barely long enough for 7th fret; has rounded heel and flares out awkwardly just above ribs; also rectangular patch in middle and thin wedge under fingerboard (added later?). Old portion of ribs now next to back, but originally probably next to table (no sign on them of lower-back fold); they and back probably fruitwood (plum or pear), definitely not yew. Pegbox plain with no graft to neck; head by Michael Groser (per M. Fleming), not in 17th-C. style; 6 standard violin pegs. Topham’s dendro results for 2 main (inner) pieces = 1635/37. Seems increasingly likely to be the same as Galpin’s 1632 Jaye treble, q.v. [= GAL 6; LOAN 3]. Tourin: yew sides and back, high arch with heavy recurve, cut-down neck, repaired 1963; dimensions 41.2, 18.3/12.8/23.0, 8.4, 39.0. (Jaye probably died in 1636, per Fleming 2016.)
