Display photo shows chin rest; Tourin: thin ribs, black edging to table. Probably a viola d’amore without sympathetic strings: Köpp 2000, pp. 147-48, mentions and illustrates such an instrument, dated 1714, BL 40.2, privately owned (and Brussels 1388 is another, 6+6, SL 35, dated 1730). Huwyler (4/24): “Corps viole d’amour original avec cordes sympathiques”; (9/24): neck, pegbox, and scroll fromlate 19/early 20C, for conversion to treble viol; back widths 18.7/13.0/24.0.
