Comments:
Fleming 2001: 7-piece table; back and lower bout ribs restored from folded state, with sections replaced. Double purfling front and back, latter also with purfling knot(s). Neck and head not original. (To TGM 2/21: repair labels by John Bickerdike, 1934, and by Ian Harwood and John Isaacs, 1967.) Galpin 1951: “Double purfling, some inlay on back, written label. Neck and fittings modern. The back of this viol was at one time sloped so that it could be played under the chin, but has been restored. With original case.” Drawing available from Martin Edmunds.
