Comments:
Striped back and ribs; double purfling on table; 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side. Neck, fingerboard, and tailpiece original. Elaborate carving on back and sides of pegbox. [Dolmetsch 1978 gives date as 1762, but says “property of Cécile Dolmetsch”, while her Guersan is elsewhere stated to be dated 1761: probably the same.] Said to be identical to DOLM 14 except for date. Hayes 1930, p. 5, is identified as a treble by Feyzeau (1753), but actually shows this instrument (front view), then also owned by Arnold Dolmetsch.
