Comments:
Dolmetsch 1978: double purfling throughout; apparently made on same mold as DOLM 6, and has same center back ornament of 4 flowers; scroll by Alec Hodgson. Hebbert 2001 says same as Sotheby’s 11/22/1989, lot 167, but he has since agreed with TGM that this is wrong; that one is his 1696:5. Label: handwritten or printed?; seems too early for “Church-yd:” since two others from 1696 still say “Ally”, as do five others through 1700 as well as Napper’s 1703; phrase “sign of the” also questionable, not known on other Norman labels.
