Dolmetsch 1978: double purfling throughout; datable to c. 1692 by details of construction and ornamentation; apparently made on same mold as DOLM 7; head by N. Dolmetsch. Renecked in 1960s, head copied from a French viol (per T. Budd, phone to A. Robbins). W. Monical appraisal 11/91: table and back c. 1680, but ribs 19th C.; neck, pegbox, and head 20th-C; dimensions 67.7, 30.4/21.7/36.9, 11.8, 67.3. Repair label: “Peter Tourin / Tourin Musica / Duxbury, Vermont / No. Repaired 1985” [printed except Repaired 1985]. Table ornament Type VIII, back center Type III, above and below Type IIa.
