Comments:

Hellwig 2011, TieWV 063; Hellwig 1980, no. 058. 2-piece table with double purfling and original bass bar; back (arched and bent) with 7 strips of palisander and 6 of maple, ribs with 4 and 3; dimensions 64.0, 31.0/33.0 [sic]/36.5, 12.4, -. When seen 7/92 was badly in need of repair and had been disassembled for some time (previous owner had begun some restoration work); approximate dimensions then 64.0, 31.0/23.2/38.2, 11.5, -. Neck was narrow and cello-style; maybe original but shortened; only a fragment of bass side of pegbox present. Bass bar, said then to be one of 2 surviving by Tielke (but now see Hellwig 2011), is 49.0 long, 1.2 max. height, 0.9 max. width; grain runs across length. Muthesius 2005: restored by Ingo Muthesius in 2001; top block badly damaged but kept (neck attached by tapered dowel inserted diagonally); non-original bottom block replaced; damaged uppermost 24 cm of table also replaced. Hellwig 2011 adds: 3-piece table; dark stripes microscopically identified as Dalbergia nigra (Rio-palisander); head, pegbox, and neck by Ingo Muthesius, 2001; fragment of original neck foot and pegbox now preserved separately. Dimensions 66, 30.8/22.9/38.2, 11.4 (back widths 30.0/22.7/37.9). Caldwell 2012 dimensions: 65.7, 30.7/22.2/38.0, 11.1, 67.7.
