Comments:
Sinier de Ridder: body entirely original except for bass bar; 5-piece table, 4-piece back. Construction similar to Collichon. Dendrochronology not possible, as central strip not wide enough. Neck, pegbox, and scroll modern (by a German sculptor, signed Otto); fingerboard old but not original. Had been converted to a cello; restoration of body by Sinier de Ridder (worm damage), set-up by Judith Kraft, who adds: double purfling on front, single on back; linen linings, replacing originals; no hookbar, rather an endpin and saddle, with 1-piece bottom bout. For sale 3/2024. The Viol no. 75 (2024), p. 3 (M. Fleming): “no agreement has been reached about the viol’s probable country of origin”; tailgut.
