Comments:
Pointed body corners but sloping shoulders; 2-piece table of wide and partially wild grain, with 2 wings in lower bout and low arching; slab-cut back, seemingly 1-piece. Pegbox with fluted back for 6 strings is grafted to neck; tailpiece also for 6 strings but nut for 4 (bridge missing); neck narrower than original, with ebony fillers on each side at heel. Scroll has small flower in center and pegbox has carving on button; fingerboard and tailpiece of solid ebony, with ivory strip at top end of tailpiece; tailgut with endpin fitting; 2-piece bottom rib. In fragile condition, especially back (cracks and open joints); varnish very blotchy all over. Website: Italian, 17th century; no further description.
