Richard 2019/12/907

Richard auction: Label date perhaps 1762; 3 original pegs, original fittings, very good condition with one repaired crack; body length 24, string length 32. Expert for this lot was Sinier de Ridder. (Not a specialist sale of instruments: rather, “Bijoux, tableaux, mobillier, objects d’art et argenterie”.) Square shoulders, La Fille head and pegbox, ivory top on hookbar; when bought, had tailpiece for 4 strings. First handwritten digit on label oddly formed: if 5, lacks top horizontal stroke; less likely 6, because loop not closed and written clockwise. Restored by Francis Beaulieu, 2020-21: back and ribs of fruitwood (possibly plum), neck attached with original iron screw, original fingerboard and 3 pegs, original bassbar with worm damage replaced but kept. Back widths (from owner) 16.5/11.5/20.1
