Comments:
3-piece table with narrow grain and very long F-holes; overhanging edges on table and back; pegbox and head old but not original, made from single piece of wood. Body widths measured on the back. When bought, had 6 strings on a cello-style neck, clearly not original; current neck and other restoration work by Bernd Hiller (Markneukirchen); original number of strings unknown. (Owner: “hat eigentlich schon Bassetchen-Größe ... für Sololiteratur nicht mehr bequem zu spielen.”) General place and time of origin (Moravia, late 18th C.) suggested by 2 luthiers very familiar with instruments from that area; specific town and year from “a professor for geomancy, who is himself an amateur gamba player” (there is a castle there, and was once a Hofkapelle).
