Comments:
Table with faint traces of painted or ink purfling; back with inlaid outer and painted inner lines, the latter also running along each side of the center joint. Ribs have central strip of side-by-side walnut and rosewood (?) segments alternating above/below and forming long chevrons. Neck, pegbox, and head (male bust wearing hat) not original; 5 black and 1 blond pegs. Soundholes narrow and quite curly, bass side appearing longer (but same measured length?). Now with tailgut (detached in photos), perhaps originally with hookbar. Bad worm damage throughout. Fleming: “Many horrible repairs. Cracks in front, back and sides.” Corrected spelling of maker’s name from Benjamin Vogel, 11/19.
