Comments:

Table probably not original, with wings of unequal size in lower bouts, medium to very wide grain, wide black single purfling (not multi-ply), and painted coat of arms (featuring an eagle) surmounted by a crowned head of armor and surrounded by extensive red and black feathers. Back of 2 pieces with 2 wings, strongly flamed, with single purfling (separate perimeters above and below fold) and ornamentation featuring hearts at bottom and below fold, with a central 6-pointed design. Neck short and intended for fretless playing; pegbox probably also modern, though significantly wider than neck. Fingerboard has black perimeter inlay, tailpiece has elaborate design and scalloped edges. Hookbar has 2 holes for endpins, with a red wax seal nearby on the bottom treble rib. Small crossbars above and below soundpost plate; heart-shaped internal reinforcements of both inlaid heart designs on back. Previous owner was a cellist and pioneer gambist.
