Comments:
3-piece table (narrow center piece). Last digit of date unclear; could also be 3 or 8. Scroll original; (plain) tailpiece not. Inlaid fingerboard also original, but narrowed to cello width, then widened with ebony edging by D. Kessler. He had restored the instrument before M. Cyr acquired it (including current bridge); no work done since then. Has old case, probably 19th C., made to fit this instrument. Previous owner Joshua Barkin was a forest ranger and amateur gambist. Table ornament Type IV back center BN monogram, upper and lower Type II.
