Comments:

2-piece table, 2-piece back, both with single purfling; 1-cm dark stripe along back center joint. Neck has somewhat rounded profile and is significantly narrower than pegbox, with a very clear graft line between them. Bridge (“A. Vidoudez Geneve”) has passage and grooves for 6 sympathetic strings; plugged holes in bottom rib for their tuning pins, and under neck for hitchpins. Large bass bar, corner blocks, and linings on perimeter and center joint of back; 4 crossbars in addition to soundpost plate. Used for premiere of Frank Martin’s Roméo et Juliette (1929), played by cellist Henri Honegger; bought from his estate by Claude Viala, who donated it to the Conservatory, of which he was then director; in possession of Prof. Philippe Mermoud since c. 1975.)
