Comments:
Had been converted to a viola when acquired (ribs cut down, now rebuilt); new neck, pegbox, fingerboard, and tailpiece. Head is original and said by owner to be identical to that on 1647 Turner treble, while outline, purfling, and decoration are very similar to his 1656 treble. Round rosette (not heart-shaped) and single purfling on table; back purfling outlines top, middle, and bottom sections, but no decorative designs. Numerous photos of restoration by Jan Stejskal (Prague) on owner’s website (as of 6/08).
