Comments:
Had been converted to a viola; restored by Hagen Schiffler after a previous restoration involving only neck and fittings but not ribs, in both cases as a 5-string treble (Schiffler 2004: ”Diskant”). 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side. Very similar, in both dimensions and wood used (ribs and back of bird’s-eye maple), to a viola of 1696 owned by GdMf, Vienna, also with cut-down ribs; and also to instrument of 1690 restored by Biordi & Giraud as a 6-string treble. Ribs now rebuilt by adding 1-2 cm of similar wood.
